The Greene County boys track and field team won the district title in the Class 2A state qualifying meet May 13 and had six automatic qualifiers for the state meet. In Class 2A, first and second place finishers automatically qualify for state competition.
The girls team placed eighth in the district but had two automatic qualifiers.
The remaining 24 positions at state are filled at-large, with the best times and distances among those who didn’t place first or second at their qualifiers.
When all was put in the mix, eight boys events and six girls events will compete at the coed state meet May 20-22 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
First place events in boys competitions were
- 110M hurdles- Jackson Morton- 15.08 seconds
- 4 X 110m shuttle hurdle relay- Nathan Black, Jaxon Warnke, Bryce Stalder, Morton, 1:02.27
- Discus, Josh Ewalt- 139’ 8-1/2”
Second place events were
- 4 X 400m relay- Stalder, Warnke, Morton, Richard Daugherty, 3:35.83
- High jump- Nathan Black, 6’ 3”
- Long jump- Bryce Stalder, 22’ 3-3/4”
Qualifying at-large were
- 400m hurdles- Jackson Morton, 57.60
- 4 X 200m relay- Nathan Wailes, Warnke, Daugherty, Stalder, 1:33.82
Other Ram events that placed third at the district meet but did not receive at-large places in the state meet were
- 400m dash- Nathan Black, 54.89
- 3200m run- Logan Woodruff, 11:01.34
- 800 sprint medley relay- Daniel Rivera, Wailes, Warnke, Daugherty, 1:38.93
Automatic qualifiers in girls events were
- Discus- Brooklyn Olson, first place, 123’ 5”, a school record
- 4 X 200m relay- Olivia Shannon, Makala Kafer, Brianna Osterson, Natalie Heupel, second place, 1:50.31
At-large qualifiers were
- Long jump- Brianna Osterson, 16’ 6”
- Shot put- Brooklyn Olson, 35’ 6”
- 4 X 100m relay- Shannon, Osterson, Kafer, Natalie Heupel, 52.34 seconds
- Sprint medley relay- Annie Twillie, Natalie Heupel, Shannon, Katrina Heupel, 1:56.82
